Water Pumps & Pressure Systems

Weak showers, a pump that keeps cycling or no water at all? I repair pumps and install complete booster sets at a fixed price.

Water pump, booster set and pressure system installation and repair in Crete

Many homes in Crete need a pump to get usable water pressure. Mains pressure is often low, especially higher up in a village or on the top floor, and many houses and villas draw their water from a tank or a well. When the pump, its pressure vessel or the pressure switch fails, you notice it straight away: a weak shower, a pump that switches on and off every few seconds, strange noises at night or no water at all.

I am Gino, a Belgian-certified plumber, electrician and HVAC technician with more than 20 years of experience, based in Hersonissos. A pump system is half plumbing and half electrics, so I check both sides: the pipes, valves and pressure vessel, and the motor, the pressure switch or controller and the circuit that feeds it. That way the real cause is found, not just the symptom.

If your pump is worn out, or you want good pressure for the first time, you can choose one of my fixed-price booster sets below: a pressure pump with a pressure vessel, sized for an apartment, a house with 2 to 3 bathrooms or a villa or holiday rental. I work around Hersonissos, Malia, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos and the villages in between.

What standard installation includes

  • A quality brand-name pressure pump and pressure vessel, depending on local availability
  • Professional installation by a certified plumber and electrician
  • Disconnecting and removing your old pump, if there is one
  • Mounting the new booster set on anti-vibration feet in the existing pump spot
  • Connecting the suction and pressure side with valves and a non-return valve
  • Connecting the pump to the existing electrical supply and checking it is safe
  • Setting the pressure switch and the air charge of the pressure vessel
  • Testing every tap and shower and checking all joints for leaks

May cost extra

  • A new water tank, new pipes or a new pump room or cover
  • A new electrical circuit if the existing supply is not safe
  • Well pumps, submersible pumps and borehole work
  • A difficult installation spot, for example an attic, a very tight space or high on a roof
  • A larger pressure tank (pressure vessel) for an extra stable pressure
  • A stronger pump when the water has to go higher (more floors, a roof tank) or further: the pump size depends on the height and distance

Reliable water in every tap: combine it with

A water storage tank

A tank gives your pump a steady supply and keeps water in the taps during mains cuts. I install 500, 1000 and 1500 litre tanks at fixed prices.

  • Water during mains interruptions
  • Float valve and overflow included
  • Protects the pump from running dry
  • Rooftop or ground level

Leak detection

A hidden leak makes a pump switch on day and night, which wears it out and wastes water. Finding the leak protects your new booster set.

  • Stops the pump cycling at night
  • Lower water and electricity bills
  • Checks toilets, taps and hidden pipes
  • Clear report with photos

What I do for your water pump

Pump fault diagnosis

No water, low pressure or a pump that will not stop: I check the hydraulic and the electrical side and find the real cause.

Pressure vessels

A pressure vessel that has lost its air charge makes the pump cycle all day. I check it, set the right pressure or replace the vessel.

Pressure switches and controllers

Faulty pressure switches and electronic controllers are common in hard water. I replace them and set the pump correctly.

Noisy pumps

Anti-vibration feet, flexible hoses or a modern variable-speed pump make a real difference for bedrooms close to the pump.

Tanks and float valves

A pump is only as good as its supply. I connect it properly to your water storage tank with a float valve and dry-run protection.

New booster sets

A complete booster set at a fixed price for an apartment, a house or a villa, mounted, connected and set up.

Pump problems: signs and the usual cause

A quick guide to what your pump is telling you; I always confirm the cause on site before replacing anything.

Which booster set suits your home?

The right pump depends on how many taps and showers run at the same time, not only on the size of the house. These are the three situations I see most:

  • Apartment: one bathroom and a kitchen, often on an upper floor where mains pressure is weak. A compact, quiet set is enough.
  • House with 2 to 3 bathrooms: showers and a washing machine running together. The pump needs more flow so pressure does not drop when a second tap opens.
  • Villa or holiday rental: several bathrooms, an outdoor shower, garden taps and guests who all shower before dinner. Here a stronger pump and a bigger pressure vessel give steady pressure and a longer pump life.
  • Not sure? Send me a photo of your current pump and tell me how many bathrooms you have, and I will tell you which set fits.

Repair the pump or replace it?

Many pump problems are not the pump itself. A pressure vessel without air, a faulty pressure switch or a small leak in the house can make a healthy pump look broken. Those are quick and affordable repairs, and I always check them first.

Replacement is the better choice when the motor is burnt out, the pump housing is cracked or badly corroded, or the pump is simply too small for how the house is used now. Old pumps that run noisily for years also use more electricity than a modern one. In that case one of the fixed prices on this page gives you a complete new set without surprises.

A pump that runs when nobody uses water usually points to a leak. Then leak detection saves both water and your new pump.

Power cuts, water cuts and holiday homes

Without electricity a pump stops, and without water in the tank it can run dry and burn out. In Crete both happen. A rooftop or ground-level storage tank gives you a reserve during water cuts, and dry-run protection switches the pump off before it is damaged.

For holiday homes that stand empty for weeks, I recommend switching the pump off at the fuse box when you leave and having it checked before the season. I work for many owners abroad: I can collect a key, test the system, send photos and make sure guests arrive to good pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a booster pump for a house cost installed in Crete?

You can see it in the fixed prices on this page. The price includes a complete booster set with pressure pump and pressure vessel, removal of the old pump, connections, electrical check and setting up. Only outside the free zone around Hersonissos is a travel supplement added, which you can calculate on this page.

What does a booster set for an apartment or a villa cost?

Both are fixed packages on this page, next to the set for a house with 2 to 3 bathrooms. Standard installation is included. Extras only apply for things like a new tank, new pipes or a new circuit, and I always tell you before I start.

Why does my pump switch on and off constantly?

Most often the pressure vessel has lost its air charge, or there is a small leak somewhere in the system. Both are quick to check and usually cheap to fix.

My pump runs at night when nobody uses water. Why?

That usually means a leak: a running toilet, a dripping tap or a hidden pipe leak. Turn off the taps one by one, and if the pump still runs, I can find the leak for you.

How long does a water pump last?

Often 8 to 15 years, depending on quality, water and how often it switches on. A correctly charged pressure vessel and dry-run protection extend its life a lot.

Can you make my pump quieter?

Yes. Anti-vibration feet, flexible hoses and a modern variable-speed pump make a big difference, especially when the pump is close to bedrooms.

What happens to my water during a power cut?

Without power the pump stops. A small reserve in the pressure vessel helps briefly, and a tank on the roof gives you water by gravity even without electricity.

Do you repair water pumps in Hersonissos, Malia and Agios Nikolaos?

Yes. I live in Hersonissos and repair and install pumps in Hersonissos, Malia, Gouves, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Elounda and the villages around them. A pump that fails completely is an emergency, and I come as fast as I can.
