Tympaki is the working town of the south coast, where the Messara plain meets the Libyan Sea. It is the centre of greenhouse vegetable growing on Crete: row after row of greenhouses produce tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers that are sold across Europe. On the coast, Kokkinos Pyrgos is a relaxed fishing and holiday village with a small harbour, Kalamaki, the seaside of the village of Kamilari, has a sandy beach on the wide Messara Bay.

The south coast has a harsher climate than the north, and buildings around Tympaki show it. Common issues I deal with:

For one small job, like a single socket or a dripping tap, it can be: more than two hours of driving in total is hard to justify for ten minutes of work. For a new solar water heater, an A/C installation or a renovation it makes little difference. The smart way is to collect several jobs, or to wait for a day when I am already working on the south coast.
