A/C Installation & Service

A new inverter A/C at a fixed price, neatly installed with a proper drain and safe connection, and a yearly service that keeps it cooling.

Air conditioning installation in Crete: 9,000, 12,000 and 18,000 BTU inverter units at fixed prices

In a Cretan summer the air conditioning runs for hours every day, often from June to October. A unit that is too small never catches up with the heat, a unit that is too big switches on and off and wastes energy, and a badly installed one drips on the terrace, rattles against the wall or trips the electricity. A unit that is never cleaned starts to smell musty and slowly loses its cooling power.

I am Gino, a Belgian-certified HVAC technician, electrician and plumber with more than 20 years of experience, living in Hersonissos. That combination matters for air conditioning: I choose the right capacity for the room, mount the indoor and outdoor unit properly, run the condensate drain where it belongs and make the electrical connection safe myself. You deal with one person from advice to the final test.

For the most common situations you can choose a fixed-price package below: a 9,000, 12,000 or 18,000 BTU inverter split unit including standard installation, or a service per unit for an A/C you already have. You know the A/C installation cost before I come. Larger villas, multi-split systems or unusual spots get a free quote. I work in Hersonissos, Heraklion, Malia, Agios Nikolaos, Elounda and the villages in between.

What standard installation of a new A/C includes

  • A quality brand-name inverter unit, depending on local availability
  • Professional installation by a certified HVAC technician and electrician
  • Mounting the indoor unit and the outdoor unit on a sturdy wall bracket
  • A standard insulated pipe run of up to a few metres between both units
  • Vacuuming the lines before the system is opened
  • A neat condensate drain that does not drip on your terrace
  • Electrical connection to a suitable existing supply, checked for safety
  • A full test in cooling and heating mode and an explanation of the remote

May cost extra

  • Longer pipe runs or covering the pipes in trunking over a long distance
  • An extra electrical circuit from the fuse box if the existing supply is not suitable
  • A difficult installation spot, for example high on a facade, on a roof or in a tight space
  • Removing and disposing of an old unit

More comfort all year: combine it with

Heating with a heat pump

Your new inverter A/C already heats efficiently, and for the whole house an air-to-water heat pump can replace oil or electric heaters. I can advise you on both at the same visit.

  • Low running costs in the mild Cretan winter
  • Works with radiators or underfloor heating
  • Can also make your hot water
  • Advice on sizing and placement

Ventilation and damp control

An A/C cools and dries the air in summer, but bathrooms and closed holiday homes also need fresh air in winter. Good extraction keeps mould and musty smells away.

  • Bathroom and kitchen extractor fans
  • Humidity-controlled ventilation
  • Ideal for homes that stay closed for weeks
  • Less mould on walls and ceilings

What I do for your air conditioning

Advice on size and placement

I look at the room size, sun, insulation and ceiling height, and suggest a capacity and a spot for both units that work well together.

New inverter split units

Single split units for bedrooms, living rooms and open-plan spaces, installed at a fixed price for the standard sizes.

Multi-room and villa projects

Several units or a multi-split system for a whole house or villa, planned together so the outdoor units and pipes stay tidy.

Safe electrical connection

As an electrician I check the circuit and protection myself, and add a dedicated line from the fuse box when it is needed.

Yearly A/C service

Cleaning filters, coil and drain, checking the outdoor unit and testing performance, so the unit cools well and smells fresh again.

Service for holiday rentals

Several units cleaned and checked in one visit before the season, with photos and a short report for owners abroad.

Which A/C size do you need?

A rough guide for inverter split units in Crete; sun, insulation and ceiling height can change the right choice, so I always check per room.

CapacityRoom size (about)Typical room
9,000 BTU15 to 20 m²Bedroom, study or small studio
12,000 BTU20 to 30 m²Living room or large bedroom
18,000 BTU30 to 45 m²Open-plan living with kitchen or a large room
24,000 BTU45 to 60 m²Very large living space, by quote
Multi-splitSeveral roomsWhole house with one outdoor unit, by quote

Choosing the right A/C for a Cretan home

Capacity is only part of the story. A west-facing room with big windows needs more cooling than the same room on the north side, and a stone house with thick walls behaves very differently from a top-floor apartment under a flat roof. That is why the room sizes in the table are a starting point, not a rule.

I always recommend inverter units. They adjust their speed instead of switching on and off, which means a steadier temperature, less noise and a lower electricity bill. Almost all of them also heat efficiently in winter, which makes them a simple form of air-to-air heat pump for the cooler months.

Placement matters too: the indoor unit belongs high on a wall with free airflow, not straight above a bed or sofa, and the outdoor unit needs air around it and a spot where it does not bother you or the neighbours.

What happens on installation day

A standard installation of one unit usually takes most of a morning or an afternoon. These are the steps:

  • We confirm the exact spot for the indoor and outdoor unit together.
  • I drill the wall opening and mount the bracket and both units.
  • I run the insulated pipes, the cable and the condensate drain.
  • I vacuum the lines and check every connection.
  • I connect the power, test cooling and heating, and show you the remote.
  • I clean up the dust and take the packaging with me.

Why a yearly A/C service pays off

Every summer an air conditioner pulls a lot of dust, pollen and salty air through its filters and coil. Over time that layer blocks airflow, the unit works harder for less cooling and mould grows in the coil and drip tray, which is the musty smell many people notice when they switch it on.

A service includes

  • cleaning and disinfecting filters and the indoor coil
  • cleaning the fan and drip tray
  • flushing the condensate drain
  • cleaning the outdoor unit and checking operation

How often

  • once a year for a home used normally
  • twice a year for busy holiday rentals
  • twice a year if the unit also heats in winter
  • sooner if it smells, drips or cools poorly

If the service shows a real fault, I explain it and give you a price for the repair before I do anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to install a 12,000 BTU air conditioner in Crete?

You can see it in the fixed prices on this page. The price includes the inverter unit, standard installation with a bracket, a pipe run of a few metres, vacuuming, the drain and the electrical connection, plus a test. A travel supplement is only added outside the free zone around Hersonissos.

What is the price of a 9,000 or 18,000 BTU A/C with installation?

Both are fixed packages on this page, just like the 12,000 BTU unit. Extras only apply for things like a longer pipe run, an extra circuit or a difficult spot, and I always tell you before I start.

What size A/C do I need for my room?

As a rough guide: 9,000 BTU for a bedroom of about 15 to 20 m², 12,000 BTU for about 20 to 30 m² and 18,000 BTU for open-plan living of about 30 to 45 m². Sun, insulation and ceiling height matter, so I check each room.

How long does an A/C installation take?

One standard unit usually takes half a day. Several units in one house take one or two days, depending on the pipe routes and the electrical work.

How often should my A/C be serviced?

At least once a year, ideally before summer. Holiday rentals and units that also heat in winter are best serviced twice a year.

Can the outdoor unit go on the roof?

Often yes, but the pipe run gets longer and access for service must be safe. A roof or high facade counts as a difficult spot, so I quote it separately after seeing a photo.

Do you service A/C units in empty holiday homes?

Yes. Owners abroad send me the address and key arrangements, I clean and check all units before the season and send photos and a short report when it is done.

Do you install air conditioning in Heraklion, Malia and Elounda?

Yes. I live in Hersonissos and install and service A/C in Hersonissos, Malia, Gouves, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Elounda and the villages around them. Outside the free zone a travel supplement applies, which you can check on this page.
